Schools

The group's campuses, schools and head office: code, name, gender and kind, and the branch card on the public site.

Open the page in SchoolOS

What it is for

Every school or campus in the group is a row here, with the short code it is known by. Classes, pupils, staff and gate tablets are built on them, and so are the branch cards on the public site: the address, the phone, the place on the map and the branch's profile.

Who uses it

The page opens for whoever holds “View schools”, to look only, or “Manage schools, stages, grades and sections”, to work in it. In the built-in roles: Owner, Principal. A group grants these to any role under Settings → Roles and permissions, and everyone sees only what is within their own scope.

Step by step

  1. Press “+ Add school”, type the code and the name, and choose the gender and the kind.
  2. Fill “Where it is, and how to reach it” and “What this branch says about itself” for them to show on the branch card on the site.
  3. To change a school: the pencil on its row. To delete it: the bin; it is restored from “Deleted”.
  4. To add many schools: “Import” from an Excel file.

How it works

The code is 12 characters at most, in capitals, and is not repeated in the group, even by a deleted school. The “Head office” is the group's headquarters, holding no classes, pupils or gate tablets, so it is left out of those choices. A new school gets its school days laid out for every year, and its card on the site. Latitude is between -90 and 90, longitude between -180 and 180. Deleting deactivates: its classes, pupils and staff stay as they are, and its name leaves the choices. Adding a school is for someone whose permission covers the whole group; changing and deleting are for whoever manages the structure at that school. In an import a school is known by its code: a new code adds, an existing one updates, an empty cell keeps what is stored, and a deleted school's code is refused.

On the page

  • Search by the school's name or code.
  • “Import” many schools from an Excel file.
  • The schools, and the deleted ones.
  • Each school's code, name, gender and kind. The pencil changes, the bin deletes.
  • “+ Add school”: the code, the name, the gender, the kind, and the branch card.

Questions

What is the “Head office”?
The group's headquarters. It is no school pupils or classes belong to, so it is left out of the school choices there.
Why can I change my school but not add one?
Adding is the whole group's, and your permission covers one school.
Does deleting a school delete its pupils?
No. They stay as they are, the school leaves the choices, and it can be restored whenever you like.
