Subjects

The group's list of subjects: each one's code and name, added from the ready standard subjects or by hand.

Open the page in SchoolOS

What it is for

The list of subjects the group's schools teach is written here, once for the whole group. Today it is a reference list that teachers' work and grades will be built on later.

Who uses it

The page opens for whoever holds “View subjects”, to look only, or “Manage schools, stages, grades and sections”, to work in it. In the built-in roles: Owner, Principal. A group grants these to any role under Settings → Roles and permissions, and everyone sees only what is within their own scope.

Step by step

  1. If the list is empty: “Add the standard subjects” adds twelve ready subjects.
  2. For another subject: “+ Add subject”, and type the code and the name.
  3. To change a subject: the pencil on its row. To delete it: the bin; it is restored from “Deleted”.
  4. To add many subjects: “Import” from an Excel file.

How it works

The ready standard subjects are twelve: Quran, Islamic studies, Arabic, English, Maths, Science, Social studies, Digital skills, PE, Art, Life skills and Critical thinking; any whose code exists, even deleted, is skipped. The code is 12 characters at most, in capitals, and is not repeated in the group. “Core subject” describes the subject and changes nothing today. Deleting deactivates. Only someone whose permission covers the whole group changes subjects; in an import a subject is known by its code.

On the page

  • Search by the subject's name or code.
  • “Import” subjects from an Excel file.
  • The subjects, and the deleted ones.
  • Each subject's code and name, and the “Core subject” badge. The pencil changes, the bin deletes.
  • “+ Add subject”, and from it “Add the standard subjects”.

Questions

What does “Core subject” do?
It only describes the subject today; it changes nothing else.
I pressed “Add the standard subjects” and one I deleted did not come back.
The ready ones skip codes on file. Restore it from “Deleted”.
Why can't I change anything?
Subjects are the whole group's, and your permission covers one school.
