Attendance review & excuses
Excuses for absence and lateness: the school enters them or a guardian requests one from the portal, and they are approved and applied to their days, refused, or revoked.

An excuse makes a pupil's days within it “excused” in the register and the reports, so they do not count as unexcused absence and no absence notice goes out for them. Here the office enters an excuse it received, reviews guardians' requests, and revokes an excuse approved by mistake.
Who uses it
The page opens for whoever holds “View attendance review & excuses”, to look only, or “Approve excuses”, to work in it. In the built-in roles: Owner, Principal, Stage supervisor. A group grants these to any role under Settings → Roles and permissions, and everyone sees only what is within their own scope.
Step by step
- To review guardians' requests: press “Awaiting review”; every request shows, whatever its dates.
- Approve a request with the tick, then confirm, or reject it and pick a reason if you like.
- To enter an excuse the school received: “+ Add excuse”, choose the pupil, the dates, the reason if it is known, type who asked, then “Save”.
- To revoke an approved excuse: the bin on its row; it moves to the “Deleted” tab, where it can be restored.
- “Review today's attendance →” opens the register on the absent pupils of the period's last day.
How it works
The page shows the last 30 days to today: the “Excuses” tab holds the approved ones and those awaiting review, the “Deleted” tab the revoked and refused. A school's excuse covers 60 days at most, a guardian's request from the portal 30. Approving an excuse applies it to every record in its dates, closed days included, and to whatever is recorded in them afterwards. Approving a guardian's request sends no message: the guardian sees the decision on their page. A refusal applies to nothing, and its reason is kept in the action log and not sent; the request is put back for review from “Deleted”. A request whose guardian is no longer linked to the pupil shows “No longer linked”, and is refused, never approved. Revoking an excuse makes its days unexcused absences again, and restoring it approves and applies it again. “Send to guardian” on a school's excuse sends them a message about it. Only someone holding “Approve excuses” at the pupil's school decides excuses.

Questions
- A guardian's request is not in the list.
- Press “Awaiting review”: it shows every request whatever its dates, while the list shows the chosen period only.
- Does an excuse apply to a closed day?
- Yes. An approved excuse applies to every day in its dates, closed or not.
- Why does the reason start empty?
- Some reasons are about health, which is sensitive data; a reason nobody chose is never recorded. Pick it if the guardian told you.
