Daily attendance
A class's register day by day: each pupil's status and minutes late, saved the moment they are chosen, then closing the day and notifying guardians.
Open the page in SchoolOSWhat it is for
The page where a class is marked. It brings together what was recorded at the gate and what the teacher records, and the teacher completes the marks pupil by pupil. At the end of the day the class's day is closed, which locks it, and then the guardians of absent and late pupils are told.
Who uses it
The page opens for whoever holds “View daily attendance”, to look only, or “Mark attendance”, to work in it. In the built-in roles: Owner, Principal, Stage supervisor, Teacher, Counselor. A group grants these to any role under Settings → Roles and permissions, and everyone sees only what is within their own scope.
Step by step
- Choose the school, stage, grade and class, and the day (today by default).
- Choose each pupil's status from their list, and type the minutes late for a late pupil; the row is saved the moment its status is chosen.
- Narrow by status to see only the absent, for example, or those still “Unmarked”.
- At the end of the day: “Finalize the day” for the class, check the count in the confirmation, then confirm.
- After closing: “Notify guardians”, unless the shift sends it by itself.
- To record past days from a file: “Import”.
How it works
The statuses: present, absent, absent excused, late, late excused, and the school's own statuses if it has any. “Absent (excused)” and “Late (excused)” record an approved excuse for that day by themselves, and going back to a status without an excuse revokes that excuse alone; an approved excuse covering the day applies to the row by itself. Only the row that changed is written, so what the gate or a colleague recorded is not touched. A pupil with no shift that day shows “No shift” and is not marked. Closing cannot be undone: every pupil without a status gets the shift's default status, and the class's day is locked and no longer changed here. The notice comes only after closing, for pupils absent or late without an excuse, one message per guardian covering their children, never sent twice. “Guardian phone” shows to those allowed to see guardians' numbers, and the identity number only in the export file, for those allowed to see it. Importing is for someone who marks and closes at a school: one row per pupil per day; imported days come in closed and send no notice, and a closed day is changed by a file only for someone holding “Override finalized attendance”.

Questions
- I closed the day by mistake. Can I undo it?
- Closing cannot be undone, and a closed day is not changed here. An approved excuse applies to it, and someone holding “Override finalized attendance” corrects it with a file under “Import”.
- Why can't I see “Finalize the day”?
- It shows once a class is chosen, to whoever holds “Finalize attendance” at its school. In the built-in roles a teacher marks but does not close.
- Why are the status lists disabled?
- The day is closed, or the pupil has no shift that day. Someone who may only look sees the statuses as text, with no lists.
