Gate check-in

What it is for

The page for the member of staff at the gate. They scan the pupil's card with a barcode reader, or type their code, and the pupil is marked present or late by their grade's shift and the time they arrived; the result shows at the top of the page straight away. From it “Scanner mode” opens, which works with a camera and offline.

Who uses it

The page opens for whoever holds “View gate check-in”, to look only, or “Mark attendance”, to work in it. In the built-in roles: Owner, Principal, Stage supervisor, Teacher. A group grants these to any role under Settings → Roles and permissions, and everyone sees only what is within their own scope.

Step by step

1. Choose the school whose gate you stand at.
2. Scan the pupil's card, or type their code and press Enter or “Check in”. A barcode reader types the code and presses Enter itself.
3. For a pupil without a card: type their name or identity number under “Find a student”, then “Show”, and press “Check in” beside their name.
4. To scan with a phone's camera or without the internet: “Scanner mode (camera / offline)”.
5. Follow “Checked in today” at the foot of the page, and every attempt, accepted or refused, in the “Scan log”.

How it works

Lateness counts from “Day starts” in the pupil's shift: a pupil arriving within “late after” is present, one arriving later is late by the minutes. A second scan of the same pupil on the same day is “already checked in” and changes nothing. A scan is refused, with its reason, when the code is unknown, or the pupil is withdrawn, not placed in a class this year, of another school, or has no shift today. A pupil marked absent without an excuse becomes late, or present, if scanned before the day is closed; a closed day and an excused absence do not change. A search by identity number matches the whole number, only for those allowed to see the numbers, and is never written into the page's address. “Total students” is the school's pupils placed this year, and “Present” those checked in today as present or late. Someone who may only look sees the page without the scan box and the check-in buttons.

Questions

I scanned the card and got “No student with this code”.

The code is no pupil number in the group, or the reader did not read it whole. Find the pupil by name and check them in, and print a new card under “Print barcodes”.

Why “No attendance shift today”?

No active shift applies to the pupil's grade today. Check it under “Absence settings”.

I cannot see the scan box.
