Grades

The ladder of grades in each of the group's stages: first, second and on. Classes are opened on them, and pupils are promoted along them at the end of the year.

What it is for

A grade is a step in a stage: first grade of primary, second of intermediate, and so on. A group has one set of grades for all its schools: each school opens its classes on these grades, and every academic year a pupil is placed in a grade and a class. When a stage is added from its preset under “Stages”, its grades come with it; this page is for any beyond those, and for changing them.

Who uses it

The page opens for whoever holds “View grades”, to look only, or “Manage schools, stages, grades and sections”, to work in it. In the built-in roles: Owner, Principal. A group grants these to any role under Settings → Roles and permissions, and everyone sees only what is within their own scope.

Step by step

  1. Pick a stage in the filter to see only its grades, or search by the grade's name.
  2. To add a grade: press “+ Add grade”, choose the stage, type the level (the grade's number within its stage) and its name, then “Add grade”.
  3. To change a grade: press the pencil on its row; the same window opens with its current values.
  4. To delete a grade: press the bin and confirm. It leaves every choice and moves to the “Deleted” tab, where it can be restored.
  5. To add many grades at once: “Import” from an Excel file on the template the page gives.

How it works

Every grade has a stage and a level from 1 to 20, and a level is not repeated within a stage: a save that repeats one is refused. Grades are ordered by the stages' order, then by level. At the end of the year a pupil is promoted to the grade with the next level in their stage, after its last grade to the first grade of the next stage if their school teaches it, and otherwise they graduate — which is why the levels must be right. Deleting is deactivating: the classes on the grade stay as they are, none of their records is touched, and the grade is not offered in new choices. The grades are the whole group's, so only someone whose permission covers the whole group changes them; someone whose permission covers one school sees them and cannot change them. In an import file a grade is known by its stage and level: a row for an existing grade updates it, a new row adds one, a row for a deleted grade is refused, and an empty cell keeps what is stored.

On the page

  • Narrow the list to a stage, or search by the grade's name.
  • “Import” adds many grades from an Excel file, or updates the ones that exist.
  • The group's grades, by stage and then level. The pencil changes a grade; the bin deletes it, and it can be restored.
  • “+ Add grade”: choose the stage and type the level and the grade's name.

Questions

Why was the grade not saved?
Another grade in the same stage has the same level. Change the level, or edit the existing grade instead of adding a new one.
I deleted a grade by mistake. What now?
Open the “Deleted” tab and press “Restore”; it comes back as it was, with its classes.
Why is there no add button?
Either your permission covers one school rather than the whole group, or there is no stage yet: add the stages first under “Stages”.
